Valve Steam Deck Implode Animation

When I was asked by Valve to create an explode/implode animation of the original Steam Deck for the official launch video, I was certain Houdini was the perfect tool for the job. It allowed me to import the delivered CAD data and rig it in a way that made it possible for me to animate all parts with just a few sliders, enabling me to work efficiently and focus on getting the timing just right.
Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with the team at Valve, seeking their feedback and incorporating their insights into the animation. Their guidance helped me refine the animation, ensuring that it met their expectations and complemented the launch video perfectly.
The project was based on creative direction, CAD data, and UI elements from Valve and in the end, the explode/implode animation of the Steam Deck became an integral part of the official launch video, capturing the essence of the product’s innovative design and powerful capabilities.
